Cookie notices and cookie consent explainedCookie Notices and Cookie Consent Explained
Cookies are essential for the functioning of modern websites. Most of the customization and social media integration on sites depends on cookies in one way or another.
However, they can be used in a way that does not benefit visitors and are often used to track people across the web and create profiles that are very valuable to brands and advertisers for targeted marketing.
This is often seen as an invasion of privacy and because cookies are a rather silent technology – this may be happening to you without you realizing it or being able to stop it, if you want.
To help you become more aware of this activity and decide if you want to allow it to happen, new privacy legislation across the EU was implemented in 2011. This became known as the Cookie Law.
The Cookie Law requires websites to provide clear and detailed information about how they use cookies and provide ways for you to indicate whether or not you wish to allow such use. The site is then legally required to respect your wishes. This can mean that they block cookies you do not like or do not allow you to access the site – however, you should expect to have the option.
LUMIS allows you to choose what types of cookies to allow or block, although in some cases, if you do so, you may not be able to use or see the entire site.
